During the school Half Term "break" approximately 600 children (and adults) made use of the Dray rides commencing from the roundabout at the Doulton Fountain. As Tuesday of that week was a "Farrier" day, then approximately 150 passengers were carried each day. Now it has come to light that those in authority, GCC?, would like to move the Clydesdale Horses away from the Glasgow Green and move them to Pollok Park. This move could result in further staff cuts at the depot in the Green. Whilst based at Glasgow Green, the horses, with their handlers, are able to visit other park venues around the city. A move to Pollok Park would make it very difficult if not impossible to contiue the visits to such places as Tollcross Park and Alexandria Park. As Friends of Glasgow Green we would like to see this idea "hit on the head" and the status quo remain.
There are still 2 Farrier Days to come this year. These being 17th November and 22nd December 2009. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Depot on these days to see the Farriers at work, possibly re-shoeing the horses. The visitors would also be given information on the animals and the equipment that they use.
